Bringing home wherever you go: The Comfort Elixir

This past week I’ve again hit the road, following my bliss which has landed me in Charlotte NC. Few things bring more joy into my life then travel, connecting with conscious creatives, learning, and spending time in nature. Traveling the last few years at times has also had its moments of leaving me feeling ungrounded, fear creeping in of the unknown and uncertainty. Luckily I’ve found several things that nourish me, connect me to my roots, which are often traveling and being transplanted into new environments.

One thing that keeps me grounded is incorporating medicinal elixirs into my everyday. I may be sitting in an airport for three hours on layover but having a familiar comforting warm beverage to sip and smell has me at home in my body. Even when we cannot be in the forest foraging for mushrooms, or in the garden digging up vegetables, we can connect with plants by intentionally consuming and bring their energy into out bodies. Personally I connect with the fungal community, finding their energy truly deep rooted in my own soul. Mushrooms have their own consciousness they are the connectors, the digestors and the alchemist of the forest floor. They hold a special mystical secret in their mycelial roots. They work to free up minerals from the soil so that the roots of plants can better absorb them for growth, in exchange the mycelium receives the sugars from the plants. Synergy in the root connection.

So by consuming mushrooms we too can bring these qualities into our own being. We learn from them how to connect, work in synergy with our environment, how to digest and assimilate the environment, and how to be resilient. I’ve shared before several recipes for how to incorporate mushroom into our food but drinking mushroom elixirs is the simplest, so easy in fact that you can do it in the airport.

Whether you are in an airport or your living room, heres what you’ll need to connect with the mushroom consciousness:

Milk Frother

Coconut Butter (if you’re traveling get the packets I’ve had security throw away a brand new jar for being over 3 oz :(

Real Mushrooms: Lions Mane, Chaga, or Five Defender (use code NOURISH for 20% off your order)

Hot Water

Thermos, or reusable travel mug

**You can add herbs like cinnamon, chai spice etc, and honey or stevia to sweeten if desired

Instructions:

Squeeze coconut butter into thermos, add about 1 tablespoon mushroom/herb powder, and sweetener of choice. Cover with hot water (if you’re in airport just ask for hot water at any of the coffee spots, they might be annoyed but I’ve learned to not care, we’re all entitled to WATER!). Use frother to mix. Find a quiet place, sip, savor, and imagine what it’d be like to be a mushroom growing in the lush forest. Feel at home, feel at peace.
