If you're navigating the human experience in 2022, chances are you've been entangled in the web of oppressive educational, governmental, and media systems, subtly shaping you into a state of self-objectification. I know, it's not the cheeriest realization.

Before you rush to deny the impact of these systems, indulge me with a question.

When someone probes into the depths of who you are, how often do you respond by rattling off your job title, career achievements, or a list of "productive" pursuits?

Our culture tends to pigeonhole individuals, intertwining our jobs with our perceived purpose or value in life. For intuitive witches, pioneers, and creatives, this pigeonholing feels stifling. I can relate—it's been a personal struggle, and tying my identity to my work or navigating life's shifts often left me feeling lost, confused, and burdened by a lack of "purpose."

In reality, identity is not a fixed entity; it's dynamic, multifaceted, and a tool for transformation. Unhappiness often emerges when cognitive dissonance arises around our identity—the conflict between our beliefs and the behaviors creating tension and dis-ease. The opportunity for evolution arises when behaviors and beliefs align, and we shift towards greater congruence.

Living in a world shaped by diverse environments—family, partnerships, work—we adapt our identities accordingly. It's unlikely you're a constant in each of these settings (if you are, maybe I'm the one losing it).

Embracing growth, learning, and life experiences, we encounter information that challenges and upgrades our belief systems. Resistance to this upgrade may lead to disharmony, hindering personal growth and even manifesting as physical illness.

Consider my journey through various dietary identities, from a raw-vegan enthusiast to recognizing the importance of animals in the ecosystem. Shifting beliefs while staying true to core values of holistic wellness, vitality, and reciprocity with the Earth allowed for a more fluid and easeful relationship with food.

Identity isn't just a label; it triggers action. Self-belief shapes our actions, guided by personal mythologies—conscious, unconscious, and subconscious narratives, intentional or shadow conditioning, inherited or created. The power lies in choosing which narratives are constructive and which are detrimental.

If your upbringing linked success to grades but you struggled academically, consider reframing your identity from "unintelligent" to "non-conformist." Rebellion against conventional education could lead to self-education, entrepreneurial ventures, and a unique problem-solving approach.

To live differently, seek stories that reshape your behavior. Change the narrative, alter behavior, and transform your identity. Here's the liberating truth—your identity's freedom rests solely in your hands, not dictated by others' perceptions.
